Michael Ien Cohen
Michael Ien Cohen is a Filmmaker, Entrepreneur, Humanitarian and Life-Long Skateboarder. He started out as a Marketing Director in the hospitality industry and began his entrepreneurial career, co-founding 911Webs Corp., a software company pioneering web-based management systems for fire departments and EMS squads. Inspired by his Grandfather, a photographer, life-long volunteer and celebrated FDNY hero with a day named after him in Brooklyn, NY., Michael became a wish-granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation but aspired to make a larger impact on the world around him. After focusing on his business career for two decades, then sliding into a clinical depression, Michael had an epiphany about letting fear hold oneself back from living a more authentic life and turning one's dreams into a reality. Having always wanted to be a humanitarian and filmmaker, he vowed never again to let fear guide his hand and in 2017, his love of humanitarian work and creative self-expression set him on a new journey. He founded the WhatStopsYou.org Foundation, a 501(c)(3) to provide schools serving underprivileged communities with inspirational speakers to help children get past the fears and uncertainties that can hold them back. Michael also wrote, produced and directed the epic documentary film, Humanity Stoked (for release this winter). The film is an exploration into the challenges of moving humanity forward, as seen through the eyes of dozens of the world’s most iconic professional skaters, plus activists, scientists, artists, musicians, and educators, all of whom share unique experiences and perspectives shaped by their love of skateboarding. It features Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Lizzie Armanto, Chad Muska, Nyjah Huston, Vanessa Torres, Sheppard Fairey, Boo Jonson, Tony Alva, Ray Barbee, Cara-Beth Burnside, Chris Cole, Steve Olson, Steve Van Doren, Amelia Brodka, Christian Hosoi and many others.
